The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff members under its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to career advancement, institutional continuity and organisational stability.
The decision was reached at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
At the Directorate level (Grade Levels 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors. Of this number, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are scheduled for retirement shortly after their promotion, in accordance with existing public service regulations.
At Grade Levels 15–16, 91 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors. Similarly, 82 Chief Officers on Grade Levels 14–15 advanced to the position of Assistant Directors.
The promotion exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on Grade Levels 07–13 across various departments of the Commission.
Overall, the exercise spanned multiple cadres and was conducted in line with established guidelines and extant public service rules.
INEC stated that the exercise underscores its resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service, while strengthening leadership capacity across its structures, particularly as preparations continue for upcoming electoral engagements.
The Commission congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to rededicate themselves to professionalism, integrity and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities.
