Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled a coordinated multi-pronged attack by ISWAP terrorists at Mandaragirau in Borno State, foiling what military authorities described as a desperate attempt by the insurgents to overrun the location.
According to OPHK Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists launched the assault using gun trucks and motorcycles. However, troops had anticipated the attack and tactically emplaced combat teams, which decisively engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle.
The attackers were eventually forced to retreat after suffering heavy casualties, with no breach recorded in the defence of the location.
Regrettably, some gallant personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force paid the supreme price in the course of defending the position. A few soldiers also sustained injuries and were promptly evacuated by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI alongside Nigerian Army Aviation platforms for immediate medical attention.
Military authorities described the fallen personnel as heroes whose sacrifice embodies the highest traditions of service, courage, and unwavering commitment to the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, follow-up exploitation operations along the Kimba axis revealed blood trails, shallow graves and abandoned items believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists. Eyewitness accounts further confirmed that multiple insurgent casualties were evacuated towards Kimba, underscoring the scale of losses suffered by the attackers.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery, professionalism and fighting spirit, noting that the failed attack reflects the growing desperation of terrorist elements under sustained operational pressure in the North East.
The military reiterated its resolve to sustain offensive operations aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities and restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
