Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have demonstrated exceptional courage and operational superiority by decisively thwarting coordinated terrorist attacks in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the OPHK Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, who said the determined assaults were launched late on February 14, 2026, as terrorists attempted to overrun defensive positions in the town.

He noted that through battle discipline, superior firepower, tactical foresight, and steadfast resolve, the troops held their ground, inflicted heavy losses on the attackers, and reaffirmed the operational dominance of the military across the theatre.

According to the statement, on the same night, a large group of suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists advanced from the Sambisa Forest axis and launched a fierce attack on troops of Sector 1 in Pulka. In a well-coordinated response, the troops engaged the terrorists in an intense firefight, successfully containing and reversing the assault.

Although a section of the defensive perimeter was briefly breached, leading to the destruction of some combat enablers and accommodation facilities, swift reinforcement with overwhelming firepower from the 26 Brigade forced the attackers to retreat in disarray toward the Sambisa axis.

The military said credible intelligence indicated that the terrorists suffered severe casualties, including the death of a senior commander identified as Abou Aisha, who reportedly sustained a critical gunshot injury to the neck during the engagement. Several weapons and equipment were also recovered.

The statement added that there was no human casualty among the troops during the encounter.

The Military High Command commended the bravery, professionalism, and fighting spirit of the troops, noting that the failed attacks reflected the growing desperation of terrorist elements under sustained operational pressure.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks, safeguarding communities, and restoring lasting peace and economic stability across the North-East region.
