The Nigerian Air Force Air Traffic Services Training Centre (ATSTC), Kaduna, has inaugurated Air Traffic Control and Surveillance Radar Course 5 for 20 cadets of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), marking another milestone in civil-military collaboration within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Monday, 2 February 2026, was followed immediately by the commencement of academic activities. The cadets, who reported to the centre on 26 January 2026, have begun an intensive 65-week training programme designed to equip them with advanced skills in air traffic management, radar operations and surveillance, in line with the demands of Nigeria’s increasingly complex airspace environment.
Speaking on the strategic importance of the programme, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the course goes beyond routine professional training, reflecting the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting civil aviation and ensuring national airspace safety.
“This programme is more than just training air traffic controllers. It demonstrates the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting civil aviation and ensuring national airspace safety. Through close collaboration with NAMA, we strengthen operational capacity and civil-military synergy for the benefit of all airspace users,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Commandant of ATSTC, Air Vice Marshal NB Folaji, affirmed that the cadets will receive world-class academic and practical instruction tailored to the realities of modern air traffic control and surveillance operations. He noted that the sustained partnership with NAMA underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring support to civil authorities and its dedication to promoting safe, efficient and secure skies across the country.
Air Vice Marshal Folaji added that the course aligns with the Nigerian Air Force’s broader capacity-building drive aimed at enhancing professional standards, deepening civil-military cooperation and reinforcing the Service’s role in safeguarding critical national infrastructure.
