CAS Air Marshal Aneke Commissions Welfare Projects, Assesses Logistics Readiness in Lagos

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has commissioned newly completed infrastructure projects at 055 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Camp, Legico Barracks, Lagos, reaffirming that personnel welfare remains a strategic pillar of operational readiness.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the CAS noted that a motivated and well-housed force is essential to mission success, particularly in view of the growing logistics demands associated with counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. He explained that deliberate investments in welfare infrastructure directly enhance morale, efficiency, and the overall combat effectiveness of the Service.

The commissioned facilities include two blocks of 24 two-bedroom flats, a block of 40 one-bedroom flats, and a purpose-built sports complex designed to promote physical fitness and general wellbeing of personnel. Describing the projects as a significant upgrade over traditional barracks standards, Air Marshal Aneke said Legico Barracks now ranks among the most dignified residential environments for service personnel nationwide.

He commended his predecessor, Air Marshal H.B. Abubakar (rtd), for initiating the project and urged beneficiaries to maintain a strong culture of discipline, responsibility, and ownership of the facilities.

The CAS also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the National Assembly for sustained fiscal support to the Service, and thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering backing of the Nigerian Air Force. He charged officers, airmen, and airwomen to remain disciplined ambassadors of the Service and to sustain harmonious relationships with host communities and sister security agencies.

The Chief of the Air Staff commenced a three-day operational visit to the NAF Logistics Command in Lagos to assess the readiness of personnel, equipment, and critical facilities supporting ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across the country.

According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the visit underscores the decisive role of logistics in modern warfare, where sustained airpower projection depends on a resilient supply chain, efficient maintenance systems, and a highly motivated workforce. 

He noted that operational success is inseparable from logistics strength, as the tempo and reach of NAF operations nationwide are sustained by a robust and responsive logistics architecture.

The CAS concluded that the visit reflects a deliberate integration of logistics readiness, welfare investment, and intergovernmental cooperation as a unified force multiplier, reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to remaining agile, resilient, and fully mission-ready in defence of Nigeria’s national security.
