The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has called on Muslims and non-Muslims across the country to remain law-abiding during and after the Ramadan fasting period.
Disu made the appeal on Friday at the Force Headquarters Mosque in Abuja during the distribution of 6,000 Ramadan food packages to police officers and their families by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Ibraheem Mogaji Olaniyan.

The newly decorated IGP described Ramadan as a period for deep reflection, spiritual cleansing and renewed commitment to good conduct. He urged Nigerians to use the season to seek divine guidance and promote peace and unity in the country.
According to him, “Ramadan is a period of looking inward, talking to God and engaging in spiritual cleansing. I urge everyone, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, to be law-abiding and promote peace during and after the fasting period.”

The police chief commended the PCRC for its longstanding support to the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the committee has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of officers and their families.
“The message I have for them is to say thank you and let them know that we appreciate them. They are a wonderful set of people who have left their homes and jobs to attend to the needs of others,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Imam of the Force Headquarters Mosque, Alhassan Yakub, also praised the PCRC for its gesture, describing the month of Ramadan as a season of reflection and moral advancement.
He said the day’s sermon focused on the spiritual and social benefits of fasting, emphasising that the period promotes unity, compassion and national development.
“As you are aware, Ramadan is a month of blessing. It is a period that brings us together to take care of ourselves, our brothers and sisters, and to promote unity and pray for the country,” Yakub said.
He offered prayers for peace, harmony, and continuous progress in Nigeria, as well as divine guidance for national leaders in their decisions.
In his remarks, the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, said the distribution of food items during Ramadan and Christmas had become a long-standing tradition of the committee.
He explained that the initiative was aimed at boosting morale among police personnel, strengthening partnerships, and appreciating their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
“This gesture is part of our commitment to supporting and celebrating our dedicated police officers during the Christmas and Ramadan seasons. We are distributing over 6,000 packages to police families,” he said.
Olaniyan further disclosed that the PCRC had also concluded arrangements to present Ramadan palliatives to officers at the Police Service Commission and the Ministry of Police Affairs as part of efforts to enhance welfare and reinforce collaboration.
The event highlighted the importance of community partnership in promoting the welfare of security personnel and fostering unity during the holy month.
