Police Expose Scam Attempt Involving Fake Medical Distress Claim

0 Admin

The Nigeria Police have raised an alarm over a scam attempt involving a man identified as Mr. Akinsanya, who allegedly posed as a distressed individual to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

According to police sources, the suspect contacted Olumuyiwa Adejobi, claiming to be critically ill and in urgent need of financial assistance to settle purported medical bills. Acting in line with established procedures, Adejobi directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ajegunle, Lagos, to verify the claim.

Investigations, however, revealed that the hospital cited by the suspect does not exist, confirming the story to be fraudulent.

Further findings showed that the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the Ajegunle DPO in a bid to gain cooperation and share proceeds from the scam, an action that has further compounded the seriousness of the offence.

The Police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and cautious of individuals who claim to be in distress and request financial assistance, especially through unsolicited calls or messages.

Members of the public are urged to:

Always verify distress claims through proper and official channels.

Avoid sending money to unverified individuals.

Promptly report suspicious contacts or activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.
