The Federal Government has conferred national honours on nine Nigerian Army personnel and veterans, living and deceased, with national honours for acts of gallantry, leadership, innovation and long-term service, during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Gala Night in Abuja.
The honours were presented on Tuesday night at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Gala Night—an annual event dedicated to recognising gallantry and service to the nation.
Among the awardees was the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, who received a posthumous Gallantry Award for exceptional bravery during counter-insurgency operations in Borno State. Brigadier General Uba was killed in November 2025 when terrorists ambushed his convoy near Wajiroko as he led a team transporting critical military equipment.
His citation highlighted decisive leadership under fire and unwavering commitment to mission success—qualities senior officers described as emblematic of the Army’s finest traditions.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, announced the list of honourees in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the awards span operational gallantry, command excellence, and innovative contributions that have enhanced training, logistics, and battlefield effectiveness.
According to the statement, the national honours underscore the Federal Government’s resolve to acknowledge sacrifices made by soldiers and veterans in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and safeguarding civilians, particularly in theatres affected by insurgency.
A Night of Tribute and Resolve
The Gala Night brought together senior government officials, service chiefs, diplomats, veterans, and families of fallen heroes. Tributes, ceremonial observances, and moments of reflection punctuated the evening, reinforcing a collective commitment to honouring service and sustaining morale across the Armed Forces.
As Nigeria continues to confront evolving security challenges, the recognition of officers like Brigadier General Musa Uba serves both as remembrance and resolve—affirming that courage and leadership in defence of the nation will not go unnoticed.
