As the year 2025 draws to a close and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) prepare to usher in a new year, the FCT Police Command has unveiled an extensive security framework designed to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free festive season.
In a reassuring end-of-year message issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, psc, extended warm festive greetings to residents and visitors, while reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives, property and public order as the Territory transitions into 2026.
At the heart of the security arrangement is the deployment of 2,202 police personnel across the FCT, in line with the 2025 festive season operational order. According to CP Dantawaye, the large-scale deployment reflects a proactive strategy aimed at preventing crime, responding swiftly to threats and ensuring that celebrations across the Territory remain peaceful and secure.
Police personnel have been strategically positioned at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks and other public spaces expected to witness high human traffic during the festive period. This is complemented by enhanced visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols and sustained community engagement to deter criminal activities.
The Commissioner further disclosed that identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties—often exploited by criminal elements—are under close surveillance, with targeted raids planned where necessary to pre-empt crime and deny criminals safe havens.
To strengthen rapid response capabilities, tactical units, rapid response squads and patrol teams have been fully activated, with intensified vehicular and foot patrols ongoing across the length and breadth of the FCT. The Command, CP Dantawaye noted, is also working in close synergy with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated, intelligence-driven and comprehensive security coverage throughout the festive season.
In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine security sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points. Overall security monitoring has equally been heightened to enable early detection and swift neutralisation of any threat to public safety.
The FCT Police Command also used the opportunity to reiterate the prohibition of fireworks, firecrackers, banga, knock-out and similar explosive devices within the Territory. CP Dantawaye warned that anyone found in possession or using such items would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, stressing that public safety remains paramount.
Calling for collective responsibility, the Commissioner urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and security-conscious, while encouraging the prompt reporting of suspicious persons, movements or items to the nearest police station or via the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
As celebrations gather momentum, the message from the FCT Police Command is clear: security is firmly in place, vigilance is key, and a peaceful transition into 2026 is a shared responsibility.
