The Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called for strengthened collaboration between the state government and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to address evolving security challenges in Plateau State and the wider North Central region.
Governor Mutfwang made the call on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, DFS.
In a press statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the visit was described as part of the Governor’s strategic efforts to deepen intergovernmental cooperation and reinforce internal security through effective federal–state partnerships.
The Governor congratulated Air Marshal Aneke on his appointment as the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff and commended the Nigerian Air Force for its sustained contributions to peace and stability in Plateau State.
He acknowledged the complex and asymmetric nature of current security threats, noting that such challenges require continuous cooperation, especially during festive periods and farming seasons when security risks often increase.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed the Plateau State Government’s readiness to support NAF operations, stressing that effective security can only be achieved through close coordination between federal and state authorities. According to him, enhanced collaboration with the Air Force remains critical to protecting lives, safeguarding livelihoods, and ensuring a stable environment for socio-economic activities across the state.
In his response, Air Marshal Aneke reiterated the NAF’s commitment to its Command Philosophy of building a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in support of joint operations.
He highlighted the Air Force’s ongoing role in promoting peace and stability in Plateau State and the North Central region through intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, air mobility support, and coordination with sister services and other security agencies.
The CAS expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Government for providing a conducive environment for NAF personnel and operations, emphasising that the support of host communities and state governments is essential for sustained operational effectiveness and long-term security outcomes.
He assured the Governor and the people of Plateau State of the Air Force’s continued commitment to professional, intelligence-driven operations in support of national security.
Both leaders agreed on the need to further strengthen their partnership through capability development, optimised training, and a whole-of-government approach to security.
The engagement ended with a shared commitment to enhancing peace, safety, and public confidence, reaffirming the resolve of the Nigerian Air Force and the Plateau State Government to protect lives and promote sustainable development.
