As the year draws to a close and commercial activities peak across Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command has issued a comprehensive security advisory to residents, visitors, business owners, and road users, urging heightened vigilance throughout the Ember Months. The advisory was released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, mnips, PhD.
According to the Command, the Ember Months—September to December—are traditionally marked by increased movement, festive activities, and a corresponding rise in opportunistic crimes.
CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding Ndi Anambra during this period, emphasizing that officers have intensified visibility policing, highway patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led raids on known criminal hideouts. Joint security deployments are also active across markets, religious institutions, transport hubs, and other public places.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain security-conscious, avoid unnecessary late-night movements, and ensure that homes and business premises are properly secured. He also encouraged communities to strengthen their local vigilance networks in collaboration with the Police, stressing that suspicious persons or activities should be reported immediately to the nearest Police formation.
Beyond physical security, the Command also cautioned the public against reckless driving, overspeeding, drunk driving, and other traffic violations, noting that road-related incidents tend to increase during the festive rush. Motorists were advised to service their vehicles, obey traffic officers, and limit night journeys where possible.
The Police further warned residents to be wary of digital threats such as fraudulent online transactions, fake investment schemes, identity theft, and deceptive job offers, which are commonly exploited during festive seasons. Citizens were reminded to “verify before you trust,” as security remains a shared responsibility.
To ensure swift response, the Command provided emergency contact lines, including the Police Control Room (07039194332), CP Monitoring Unit (08035893571), X-Squad (07053614331), Anti-Fraud/Intelligence Officer (08064018319), and the PPRO (08039334002). CP Orutugu assured the public of his readiness to attend to complaints, address personnel misconduct, and respond to requests for security services.
The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on crime during the Ember Months, warning individuals or groups with criminal intentions to desist or face the full weight of the law.
