President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to allow for more comprehensive security briefings on the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the recent attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Kwara State.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision follows a request from the Governor of Kwara State. In response, President Tinubu has directed the immediate deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also ordered security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the bandits responsible for the attack.
The President was originally scheduled to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU–EU Summit. However, concerned by the recent security breaches in Kebbi and the attack in Kwara, he opted to delay his departure.
President Tinubu now awaits detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi State on his behalf—as well as from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services regarding the Kwara incident.
The President reaffirms his directive to all security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to ensure the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls and to restore calm and security to the affected communities.
