The Kano State Police Command has urged residents to be security-conscious and take safety precautions as the Harmattan season sets in and the festive period draws near.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, the Command noted that the season often comes with increased vehicular movement, social activities, and business transactions — conditions that may heighten the risk of accidents, fire outbreaks, and other criminal incidents such as farmers/herders clashes and sexual violence.
According to the statement, the advisory aligns with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, mandating all police commands to ensure 24-hour visibility patrols and heightened security presence during the year’s final quarter.
To this end, CP Bakori has directed all Heads of Departments (HODs), Squadron Commanders, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to Intensify patrols across the state, Strengthen community engagement through collaboration with traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, market associations, transport unions, and youth groups, Enhance intelligence gathering mechanisms, and Conduct community sensitization and orientation programs.
