The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has extended heartfelt appreciation to security stakeholders, community leaders, and residents of the State for their unwavering support and cooperation with the Police during the just-concluded Anambra Governorship Election.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner commended the collective efforts of sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional rulers, youth groups, and other key stakeholders whose partnership with the Police ensured a peaceful and orderly election.
According to CP Orutugu, the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed across the State was a product of shared commitment to peace and communal harmony before, during, and after the polls. He emphasized that such collaboration significantly strengthened operational coordination and contributed to the success of the Command’s election security plan, allowing voters to cast their ballots in a safe environment.
While praising officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication throughout the exercise, CP Orutugu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining public order and protecting lives and property across Anambra State.
He urged residents to continue to support the Police and other security agencies in consolidating the gains of peace recorded during the elections, and to report any suspicious activities capable of disrupting public order.
It would be recalled that prior to the election, CP Orutugu embarked on a State-wide security advocacy tour across Anambra, engaging traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious bodies, and market unions. The engagements focused on peacebuilding, voter confidence, and community partnership in ensuring a violence-free election.
The Commissioner noted that the high level of compliance and cooperation witnessed during the election period reflected the collective resolve of Anambra residents to reject violence and embrace unity, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He assured that the Command would continue to deepen community-police collaboration to sustain the peace and security currently enjoyed across the State.
