The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Shaibu Waidi, on Wednesday met with the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, in Maiduguri following the shocking news of the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba.

The visit, described as urgent and strategic, underscored the seriousness with which the Nigerian Army is addressing the incident, which has sent ripples of concern across the military and the nation.

General Waidi, who arrived at the Government House in Maiduguri in the early hours of the day, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the senior officer, describing Brig Gen Uba as a dedicated, courageous, and highly professional commander. He assured Governor Zulum that the Army was taking decisive steps to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and would ensure that justice is served.

Governor Zulum, while receiving the COAS, condemned the killing in strong terms and called for strengthened intelligence and operational coordination to prevent similar tragedies.

He reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s continued partnership with the Nigerian Army in the ongoing fight against insurgency, noting that the loss of any officer is a setback not only to the military but to the entire nation.

Both leaders held a closed-door meeting that lasted over an hour, focusing on the current security situation, renewed insurgent activities, and strategies to reinforce troop morale across operational theatres in the Northeast.

Governor Zulum emphasized the need for improved protection for frontline commanders, while General Waidi reiterated the Army’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against terrorist remnants.

The COAS is expected to meet with other top commanders and troops in Maiduguri before returning to Abuja. The Nigerian Army has also promised to keep the public updated on the ongoing investigation, assuring Nigerians that Brig Gen Musa Uba’s death will not dampen the military’s determination to restore lasting peace to Borno and the entire Northeast.
