President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the newly appointed and Senate-confirmed Service Chiefs to lead Nigeria’s security architecture with patriotism, innovation, and decisive action against evolving threats to national stability.
Speaking during a decoration ceremony held on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, the President said the event was more than a symbolic tradition, but a reaffirmation of the government’s renewed commitment to ensuring peace and security for all Nigerians.
Tinubu emphasized that security remains the foundation of national development and governance.
“Security is an essential element without which everything else is rendered meaningless. Our people and our nation must remain secure to enjoy the benefits of governance,” he stated.
The President commended the Armed Forces for their courage and sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity, recalling their successes in reclaiming occupied territories and rescuing kidnapped citizens.
However, he cautioned that emerging threats—particularly from new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South—must be swiftly neutralized.
“We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” he declared.
Tinubu urged the Service Chiefs to deliver tangible results rather than excuses, stressing the need for strategic innovation, the use of modern technology, and a proactive approach to security management.
“Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” he said. “We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer.”
Reaffirming his administration’s support for the military, President Tinubu assured the Service Chiefs of all necessary resources and backing to effectively carry out their duties.
“I wish you success as you take up the challenge. I promise to provide all the support you need to get the job done,” he concluded.
The ceremony marked the official confirmation and decoration of the nation’s top military leaders, signaling a renewed phase in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.
