The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi (or Benjamin Hundeyin — depending on the accurate name given), who explained that the appointment follows the recent elevation of the Force Medical Section into a full-fledged directorate.
According to the statement, the creation of the new directorate underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across all police formations and ensuring comprehensive, efficient, and accessible medical services for personnel and their families nationwide.
AIG Eze, a seasoned clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator, brings over 27 years of professional experience to her new role. Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and an indigene of Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, she holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.
Throughout her distinguished career, Eze has served in several police medical formations across Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she contributed significantly to enhancing police healthcare delivery and personnel welfare.
IGP Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze on her historic appointment, urging her to deploy her clinical expertise and administrative acumen to establish the directorate as a model of excellence within the Nigerian security sector.
He further described the creation of the Directorate of Force Medical Services as a strategic investment in the well-being, morale, and productivity of police officers, emphasizing that improved healthcare is crucial to sustaining operational efficiency and professionalism within the Force.
In a related development, the statement also announced the assumption of duty by the newly posted Commissioner of Police for Kogi State Command.
