Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has commenced a specialized Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI) training aimed at enhancing coordination and operational effectiveness in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North East.
The orientation training, which kicked off on Monday, 8 September 2025, at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, is the first of its kind under OPHK. It brings together troops from various formations across the theatre of operations.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, underscored the importance of AGI in improving military efficiency and fostering synergy between air and ground forces.
“Our collective efforts in combating terrorism require a well-trained and professional force that can work seamlessly with other security agencies and entities,” he said.
General Abubakar explained that the training is designed to deepen understanding of AGI concepts, improve communication, and ensure precise coordination between surface forces and air assets to prevent fratricide and minimize civilian harm.
He urged participants to approach the programme with humility, responsibility, and an open mind, emphasizing that the knowledge acquired would significantly boost the operational capacity of the Armed Forces. The commander also expressed gratitude to the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) for its support, describing the collaboration as pivotal to fostering excellence and professionalism in the theatre.
General Abubakar further appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, for his strategic leadership and support in making the training possible, while commending troops for their sacrifices in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Earlier, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, welcomed participants and encouraged them to maximize the learning opportunity. He thanked the Theatre Commander for his strategic guidance and for providing the right environment for capacity building.
Also speaking, the AWDC representative, Wing Commander Asa Abatura, lauded the initiative and reaffirmed the facilitators’ commitment to delivering high-impact training. He also commended the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Umar Idris, for providing aircraft and other resources necessary for the exercise.
The AGI training is expected to significantly strengthen joint operations between air and ground forces, ensuring greater precision and effectiveness in the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism in the region.
