The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has lauded the Defense and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for introducing a landmark full scholarship program aimed at supporting the children of fallen heroes.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the IGP gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by DEPOWA at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Leading the delegation, DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, explained that the initiative will officially take off with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy, scheduled for September 2026.

She stated that the scholarship program is designed not only to cater to the educational needs of children of late security operatives but also to foster national unity by admitting children from neighboring communities.

Mrs. Musa expressed gratitude to the IGP for his unwavering support to security personnel, acknowledging the sacrifices of police officers in the fight against violent crimes and their contributions to international peacekeeping efforts.

In his response, IGP Egbetokun reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding democracy.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to draw strength from the support of stakeholders such as DEPOWA and other affiliate organizations as we remain steadfast in our duty to the nation,” the IGP assured.

The visit was part of DEPOWA’s ongoing “Thank You to Our Troops” campaign, which seeks to appreciate the selfless service of Nigeria’s security forces and promote initiatives that support their families.
