Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a Boko Haram ambush, neutralising 13 terrorists and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition in Kareto, Borno State.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of OPHK, the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, when troops were escorting humanitarian trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road.

The insurgents detonated two command Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and opened heavy fire on the convoy. However, the troops swiftly regrouped, counterattacking with overwhelming firepower that left 13 terrorists ead, while others fled in disarray.

During a follow-up operation, troops recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, several rolls of detonating cord wires, primed IEDs, and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition. Other recovered items included a camel bag and other logistics materials belonging to the insurgents.

While the troops achieved a decisive victory, one soldier sustained minor injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. The encounter also resulted in damage to four MRAP tyres, while two trucks were destroyed by fire.

Lt. Col. Uba confirmed that deliberate operations are ongoing in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. The relief materials under escort were later secured and successfully moved to Damasak.

This operation is part of OPHK’s continued efforts to restore peace and stability in the North-East region.
