...Intercepts Drugs Meant for Terrorists, Destroys 24,146kg Skunk in Edo Forests
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a series of major victories in its fight against illicit drug trafficking, with the arrest of two high-profile drug kingpins in Lagos and multiple operations across the country.
According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, the two suspects — Victor Nwosa (64) and Felix Chika Obiegbu (49) — were apprehended by the agency’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance on their criminal networks.
Nwosa, who posed as a successful textile merchant, and Obiegbu, known publicly as a wine distributor, were secretly running a large-scale illicit drug business. They were arrested while preparing consignments of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine for export to Europe and beyond.
- Nwosa was arrested on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at his residence in Okota, Lagos, where 4.33kg of heroin and 448 grams of cocaine were recovered.
- Obiegbu was nabbed a week earlier on Thursday, September 11, at his home in Aguda, Surulere, with 2.9kg of methamphetamine seized during a search.
Drugs Meant for Terrorists Intercepted in Borno and Yobe
In the North-East, NDLEA operatives thwarted attempts by drug suppliers to deliver illicit substances to terrorists and bandits.
- In Borno State, Baba Kaka Ibrahim (26) was arrested on Saturday, September 27 at Njimtilo village, while driving a Mercedes Benz GLK. A search revealed 39,380 pills of tramadol 225mg and Exol-5 concealed in the engine compartment.
- On the same day in Yobe State, operatives arrested Halima Adamu along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road with 39 parcels of Colorado (1.4kg) hidden in a travel bag. A follow-up raid led to the arrest of Habiba Muhammad at her Maiduguri residence.
- Kano State: Two suspects, Aliyu Sani (27) and Yahaya Tata (26), were arrested with 30,030 tramadol pills.
- Bayelsa State: Three men were arrested at Swali Jetty, Yenagoa, with 12kg of skunk and 50 live cartridges.
- Ekiti State: Ex-convict Femi Owoeye, alias Do Good, was arrested with 32kg of skunk and 10.5 grams of tramadol.
- Kaduna State:
- Adedamola Olayeni (56) was caught with 262.6kg of skunk inside a Honda Pilot jeep at the Abuja-Kaduna tollgate.
- Zubairu Haruna (30) was found with 506 grams of methamphetamine, leading to the arrest of Babangida Mohammed (25) in Gombe.
- Lagos State: 85,100 pills of opioids were seized from three suspects in Apapa.
- FCT Abuja: Opeyemi Ogundipe (40) was arrested with 2.1kg of Colorado along Abaji-Gwagwalada expressway.
24,146kg Skunk Destroyed in Edo Forests
NDLEA operatives in Edo State destroyed massive cannabis plantations:
- Uromi Forest, Esan West LGA: 4.8 hectares cleared, 12,115.6kg destroyed, with two suspects arrested.
- Ogu Forest, Igueben LGA: 4.4 hectares cleared, 12,031.245kg destroyed, and 106.1kg processed skunk seized.
Additionally, 82 bags of skunk weighing 1,025kg, hidden in bags of charcoal, were intercepted on Wareke-Auchi road, leading to the arrest of Kabiru Abdulahi (35) and Anas Safiyanu (20).
NDLEA commands nationwide intensified drug education and sensitization programs, engaging schools, religious centers, workplaces, and communities in states like Oyo, Enugu, Katsina, Kano, Lagos, and Kogi.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised officers involved in the operations for their dedication and professionalism.
“The success of these operations underscores our commitment to safeguarding Nigeria from illicit substances that threaten public health and national security,” Marwa stated.
“Every gram of these dangerous drugs we seize is a victory for our communities and a step closer to dismantling criminal networks.”
