AANI Calls for Unity, Security, and Collective Action as Nigeria Marks 65th Independence Anniversary

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens and leaders at all levels to prioritise national unity, security, and development.

In a statement signed by its President, Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, AANI described the anniversary as both a moment of celebration and sober reflection on Nigeria’s journey since independence.

“Our nation’s history has been shaped by resilience, diversity, and the indomitable spirit of our people. However, this milestone also reminds us of the pressing challenges we must confront—especially the task of securing our land, strengthening our unity, and fulfilling the promise of prosperity for every Nigerian,” the statement read.

AANI commended the gallantry of the Armed Forces, security agencies, and law enforcement bodies in the fight against terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and other security threats. While appreciating their sacrifices, the association urged them to intensify operations, adopt innovative strategies, and sustain the momentum until peace is fully restored across the country.

The association further called on local, state, and federal governments to work collaboratively with communities, civil society groups, and security agencies to safeguard lives and property, stressing that security is the foundation for unity and sustainable development.

“National security is not the government’s responsibility alone. Every Nigerian must play a role in securing our country and building a safe and prosperous future,” Okafor emphasized.

Highlighting unity as Nigeria’s greatest strength, AANI appealed to citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divisions, while embracing patriotism, integrity, and service to the nation.

“At 65, we must draw strength from our diversity and collective resolve to defeat the forces that threaten our peace and progress. In doing so, we will honor the dreams of our founding fathers,” the statement added.

The AANI President prayed for Nigeria’s leaders and citizens, asking for divine guidance, enduring peace, and progress for the country.

The Alumni Association of the National Institute is a body of distinguished Nigerians who have attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), playing key roles in shaping policies for national growth and development.
