VIDEO: Passenger Causes Airport Chaos, Assaults Air Hostess on Ibom Air Flight

A dramatic scene unfolded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Sunday when a female passenger arriving on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo assaulted an air hostess and clashed with airport security officials.

The incident, which was captured in videos and shared online by an eyewitness identified as @OHOgunbiyi on X, showed the passenger — dressed in a white top and black trousers — throwing tantrums and resisting attempts by Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel to calm her. At one point, she was seen physically attacking a cabin crew member, with onlookers alleging she slapped the air hostess mid-dispute.

Airport police officers later intervened to restore order, preventing the confrontation from escalating further.

Reacting to the development, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu, linked the altercation to the passenger’s refusal to comply with crew instructions.

He emphasised the importance of obeying standard safety directives, such as switching off mobile phones during takeoff and landing, to avoid unnecessary incidents.

“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff or landing, simply comply. I can’t understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this,” Achimugu stated, adding that passengers must understand they have responsibilities as well as rights.

The NCAA said further details would be disclosed after investigations are concluded.

This latest disturbance comes just days after the regulatory body handed down a six-month flight ban to popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, over alleged misconduct during a domestic flight.
