Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi in Nigeria, was chosen by the Rotary
International Board of Directors after the resignation of SangKoo Yun on health grounds. He will officially assume office on July 1st, 2026.
Engineer Babalola becomes only the second African and Nigerian to lead the global humanitarian organisation in its 120-year history.
In a statement, the President described Babalola’s election as a reward for his years of service through the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International, as well as his many philanthropic initiatives that have touched lives and strengthened communities.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Babalola’s new role will inspire millions of Nigerians, especially the youth, to pursue global excellence with vision, integrity and dedication.
The President assured him of Nigeria’s support as he takes on the responsibility of championing humanitarian causes and fostering international partnerships.
He also wished Engineer Babalola a successful tenure and renewed strength in his service to humanity.
