The Director of Navy Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Joel Adeoye, has expressed concern over the rising cases of voluntary retirements, inadequate operational equipment, and budgetary challenges confronting the Nigerian Navy.

Adeoye made this known on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, during a familiarization visit to the Headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command in Calabar. He was accompanied by the Deputy Director of Navy Logistics, Mr. Kola Aragbaye.

The delegation was received at the Command’s conference room by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral K. C. Ezete, along with Principal Staff Officers.

While addressing officers after a briefing on the Command’s activities, Adeoye stressed the importance of improving personnel welfare, particularly in accommodation, healthcare, and transportation.

He commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for ongoing infrastructure development projects and assured that the Ministry of Defence would support the Navy in critical areas to strengthen its operations.

In his response, Rear Admiral Ezete thanked the Director for his observations and commendations, pledging the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain.

The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
