In a decisive offensive against terrorist elements in the North West, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) has successfully neutralized dozens of terrorists and their collaborators during a precision airstrike in Zamfara State.
According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, the air operation was executed on Sunday, August 4, 2025, targeting a large convergence of terrorists at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area.
The terrorists, reportedly from the Faskari and Kankara axes of Katsina State and various parts of Zamfara, had gathered for a wedding ceremony when the air raid was carried out based on credible intelligence. The operation resulted in the killing of several terrorists, while many others sustained life-threatening injuries.
Surviving terrorists were said to have fled with their wounded to Yankuzo village, prompting a swift ground response by troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY. The troops, while en route to the village in the early hours of August 5, successfully repelled an ambush and continued their clearance operation.
Reliable local sources confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized in both the airstrike and ground assault. Four suspected collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were also reported critically injured.
The successful joint operation has brought relief to the residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities who have endured constant threats and attacks from terrorist groups in recent months.
In the statement, OPFY reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ridding Zamfara and the entire North West region of terrorist activities, pledging to sustain pressure on criminal elements threatening national peace and security.
