...Reaffirms Commitment to Police Welfare and National Security Reform
In a major boost to the welfare of police personnel, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday commissioned newly completed police barracks and accommodation facilities at Bompai and Zaria Road in Kano State.
According to Force PRO, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, the facilities, which include over 300 modern housing units, a 48-office administrative complex, a standard armoury, transport workshop, POWA shops, worship centres, paved roads, and supporting infrastructure, are part of a strategic nationwide plan to modernize police accommodation and enhance operational readiness.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony attended by officers, stakeholders, and invited guests, the IGP emphasized that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure—it is a reaffirmation of a people-centred policing philosophy. “No officer should fight for a nation by day and sleep in indignity by night,” the IGP said, stressing the importance of aligning police welfare with performance.
IGP Egbetokun praised the commitment of private sector partners and stakeholders who collaborated with the Nigeria Police Force to deliver the project to specification and on schedule. He also extended heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support of police reform under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the IGP, the project is part of a broader vision to reposition the Force as a professional, motivated, and mission-ready institution. He revealed that similar housing and infrastructure development projects are ongoing in several other states as part of the police transformation agenda.
“This is a deliberate investment in the dignity, morale, and effectiveness of our officers,” the IGP noted. “It underscores our belief that institutional reform must begin with the welfare of those who serve.”
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable personnel welfare and institutional renewal, declaring that a well-catered police force remains essential to national security and public trust.
The newly commissioned projects mark a milestone in IGP Egbetokun’s broader efforts to reform the police force and strengthen its role in delivering safety and security across Nigeria.
