— Victim’s Vehicle Recovered by Security Operatives
The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its search for the assailants responsible for the abduction and killing of prominent businessman, Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, Managing Director of Fish Magnet Outlet.
Mr. Onyekere was attacked on the evening of July 27, 2025, at his residence in Ezinifite village, Okpuno, Awka. According to preliminary investigations, the attackers trailed the victim before launching a violent assault. He was shot in the leg and abducted, and his lifeless body was later discovered — a development that has triggered outrage and grief across the Awka community.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all tactical and intelligence units within the state to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators.
"This is a senseless and cowardly act," CP Orutugu said. "We will not rest until those responsible are arrested and prosecuted. The Police owe it to the family of the deceased, the people of Anambra, and the memory of Mr. Onyekere to ensure justice is served."
The Joint Security Team, comprising officers from the Police and the Anambra Vigilante Group, recovered the victim’s navy blue Toyota Corolla along the Ukwulu–Igbariam Road. It is believed the assailants used the vehicle to flee the crime scene.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development and stated that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
The killing has heightened security concerns in Awka and surrounding communities, prompting renewed calls for increased protection for residents and business leaders.
