The National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibraheem Mogaji Olaniyan, has lauded the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for honouring the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who is the National Secretary for the PCRC, National Patron of PCRC, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, founder and general overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) and 13 other officers at the Second Edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony in Abuja.
In a press statement signed by the PCRC National Chairman on Thursday, Alhaji Olaniyan described the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony as an award bestowed upon individuals who have displayed exceptional courage, valour, and selflessness in the face of danger.
Olaniyan commended the IGP Egbetokun for recognising the Assistant Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, who received the 2024 Special Achievement Award for his contributions to reforming police communication and strengthening public engagement.
He said the awards ceremony celebrated officers whose work exemplified courage, integrity, and excellence in service.
He also congratulated Superintendent of Police Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, who was also named Police Public Relations Officer of the Year at the 2024 Nigeria Police Force Awards held on Wednesday night in Abuja
PCRC National Chairman noted that the award recognised Adeh’s effective use of social media to enhance communication between the police and the public, as well as her professionalism in managing security-related messaging.
She emerged winner ahead of fellow nominees DSP Chinaka Chioma of the Abia State Command and SP Ikenganiya Anthony of the Anambra State Command.
Alhaji Olaniyan also commended SP Obi Sentome of the Zone 16 Cybercrime Section for receiving the Integrity Award for rejecting a $17,000 bribe to release a suspect, highlighting the importance of ethical conduct in policing.
He also congratulated DSP Chinaka Chioma of the Abia State Command and PPRO Bauchi State Command, other senior officers who were recognised for their outstanding service, including Assistant Inspector General Asihatu Baju; Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi, Commander of the Intelligence Response Team; Chief Superintendent of Police Shaba Gboayako, Chief Security Officer to the Imo State Governor; and CSP Ameh Lydia, the Force Insurance Officer.
SP Mustapha Mohammed of the FCT Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit won the Gallantry Award of the Year, ahead of CSP Isiyaku Suleiman of Katsina State and ASP Robinson Julius of Delta State, for his bravery in field operations.
In total, 13 officers were honoured with individual awards across various categories out of 25 officers nominated.
Alhaji Olaniyan, therefore, urged Nigerians to support police at all levels, noting that collective community resolve to address crime can go a long way to downgrading insecurity in Nigeria.
