As part of steps toward fostering stability and peace, the Multinational Joint Task Force in collaboration with the African Union has delivered series of Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects to communities of Baga Sola, Litri, Bakatolerom, Barkalam and Kaiga Ngoubenam along the Chad-Nigeria border.
Chief Military Public information Officer Army MNJTF, Lt Col Olaniyi Osoba explained in a press statement the CIMIC projects include the commissioning of 2 solar powered bore holes in Litri and Bakatolerom, distribution of educational and a truck load of relief material to the various communities to address critical needs of the communities
He said the educational material included textbooks, notebooks, writing materials such as pgʻens, pencils and crayons among others. While the relief materials included spaghetti, rice , praying mats and maize flour among others. He asserted that the items were meant to improve learning and provide succour to the community affected by the Boko Haram terrorists
AVM Mahamat noted that MNJTF has been working tirelessly to create a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad region. He however, reiterated that military action alone is not enough to solve the security challenges and that is why CIMIC activities are critical in supporting the local population and fostering a sense community and cooperation.
The Council Chairman on behalf of the communities expressed gratitude to MNJTF and AU as well as all partners who have supported the initiative. He promised that the people of the communities will keep MNJTF informed about suspicious activities with in the communities.
Those in attendance during the handing over ceremony include the Commander Sector 1 and Commander Operation Lake Chad Major General Moussa Haussa,representative of African Union Mission Support Team Dr Christiana Idah, key commmders from Sector 1, community leaders and members of the various communities.
