Following multiple explosions that caused panic amongst residents of the Maiduguri metropolis, the Borno State Government has called for patience as the explosions are a result of a fire incident.
The Deputy Governor of BORNO state, Dr Umar Usman Kadafur disclosed this to newsmen in Maiduguri on Wednesday Night, explaining that the explosion erupted at an Armoury of Giwa Barracks, contrary to reports of Boko Haram attacks
He enjoined all and sundry to remain indoors as security operatives were on top of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI Maiduguri, wishes to inform the general public of an incident involving the explosion of ordnance in one of our ammunition storage facilities located in Giwa Barracks, acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,Captain Reuben Kovangiya said.
The explosion was due to the cuurent high temperatures in Maiduguri which led to the explosion of some munitions. The situation has however, been brought under control with the combined efforts of the Borno State Fire Service Department and other fire trucks from security agencies. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been deployed to protect the public and prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation.
The general public is therefore urged to please discountenance any speculation of an attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and remain calm.
It would be recalled that the blast occurred around midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, disrupting the midnight calm and sending shockwaves through nearby communities.
Eyewitnesses said the chaotic scenes as people fled their homes, with initial speculations suggesting the explosion might be an attack by the Boko Haram terrorist group which is not so.
