Parading the suspect today in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi noted that the Nigeria Police Force as part of its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians by employing proactive, intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime have evolved improved strategies to combat crimes and criminality.
Adejobi stressed that these efforts have led to the disruption of criminal networks and a notable decrease in incidents of organized and violent crime, enhancing the overall security situation in the country.
Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department - Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) on November 2024, on received intelligence on the criminal activities of a gang of armed robbers specialized in robbing exotic vehicles within the southeast region.
The operatives stormed the criminals’ den and engaged them in a fierce gun duel leading to the neutralization of 4 of the gang members and consequently, the arrest of one Ogaga Dickson ‘m’, who was apprehended with one Ak 47 rifle, one English pistol, one locally made pistol, ammunition of various calibres and six vehicles. Upon his arrest, Ogaga Dickson confessed to belonging to the syndicate specialized in car snatching at gunpoint.
The same group around October 2024 had set an ambush after a foiled operation, that led to the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the DPO Agbarho Division, Delta State during a fierce gun duel between a team of police officers led by the deceased DPO and the assailants.
A more recent operation by the gang also led to the death of INSPR Friday Shaibu, a FID-IRT Operative. Ogaga confessed to having stolen several cars with his gang, which they sold to Chibueke who bought them at a very low price and sold them off to interested buyers.
Ogaga had made plans to flee the country until his arrest by the operatives of FID-IRT. The other suspect Chibueke, confessed to his crimes of receiving stolen vehicles from Ogaga Dickson and selling them off. He further revealed that he had previously been convicted of a similar offence
Similarly, police operatives apprehended a child-trafficking syndicate led by one Pastor Dayo Bernard ‘m’ of End Time Army Ministry, Bukuru, Plateau State on the 2nd of December 2024.
The operation led to the rescue of five children between the ages of 2-4, abducted from various homes in Jos, Plateau State, and the arrest of other members of the syndicate identified as Rita Agboeze 'f', Victoria Ugwu 'f', Nanman Puntel 'f', and Peter Ukwuani 'm'.
Upon interrogation, the principal suspect confessed to having abducted and sold 13 children at varying prices, all of whom have been recovered by the police and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The first suspect, Nyali Hassan belongs to a gang notorious for operating around the Kaduna-Kano axis. His gang has been involved in seven different operations in the past year, receiving ransoms ranging from N2 million to N10 million.
The second suspect Ado Haruna is a vigilante of the Angwa Kanawa community, Zaria, Kaduna State. He had contracted a group of kidnappers to abduct one Alh. Anas Basiru of the same community, who is married to one of his daughters. Alh Anas Basiru was abducted alongside his 2 wives, 3 children and younger brother for over 2 months and were only released after the payment of N13 million naira, 4 Motorcycles and N300,000 Airtel recharge card as ransom. Ado Haruna as the informant and catalyst of the operation got the sum of N200,000 as a commission.
The third suspect Musa Ya’u was contacted by one Alh. Sabitu, receiving N50,000 to kidnap one Alh. Rabahani Danwada who he had gotten into a dispute with. Musa Ya’u then reached out to a group of kidnappers and spearheaded the kidnapping of Alh. Rabahani Danwada.
As we step into this New Year, police operatives across the country continue to remain steadfast and committed to the singular goal of National Security, subduing every form of criminal activity and insecurity in general in the country.
Furthermore, In line with the IGP’s directive to all police detectives to mop up every illicit arms and ammunition in circulation from wrong hands, operatives of the FID-IRT have also successfully recovered 14 Ak-47 Rifles.
