Nigerian Military Troops Foil ISWAP/BHT Attack, Kill 34 Terrorists in DAMBOA LGA, Borno

The Nigerian Military has revealed how unspecified number of ISWAP/BHT terrorist riding on motor cycles and Gun trucks on 4th of January 2025 engaged troops deployed in SABON GARI Village of DAMBOA Local Government Area of Borno State in a fire fight, as 34 terrorist were killed and 23 AK 47 weapons recovered.

Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba in a press statement said the terrorist had attempted to surprise troops and retaliate the recent killing of their commander and combatants by troops.

Maj.Gen Buba explained that the terrorist were taken unaware, when troops fighting patrol returning to base foiled their planned attack as soon as the attack commenced. 

He added that troops reinforcement team comprised of elements of Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilante as well as hybrid forces timely arrived the scene to over power the terrorists.

He affirmed that though troops reinforcement team encountered Improvise Explosive Device injuring the Vigilante Commander but the reinforcement team arrived timely to decimate the fleeing terrorist.

General Buba said the air component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air interdiction on the fleeing terrorist. Battle Damage Assessment revealed several killed terrorists and recovered weapons.

He said troops also recovered with over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunitions. Sadly, 6 personnel were killed in action.

He urged the media to note that the names of killed in action personnels are withheld to allow administrative procedures of notifying their Next of Kin be concluded. Accordingly, the media is requested to respect the process, please" he said

On the whole, the Armed Forces of Nigeria is profoundly conscious of its role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation. Accordingly, troops remain committed to the course of defeating with the terrorists.
