The President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno is considering Chad's withdrawal from the Multinational Joint Force MNJTF, given the lack of pooling of efforts, observed, as always unfortunately on the ground, in the face of this common enemy.
This comes after the government of Chad has firmly rejected accusations that its military airstrike targeting Boko Haram militants led to civilian casualties on Nigeria’s Tilma island.
This was contain in a press statement signed by the General Directorate of Communication of the Presidency Hassan Abdelkerim Bouyerb and made available to SpyeTV News on Sunday 03 November 2024.
According to Bouyerb the MNJTF created with a view to pooling efforts and intelligence seems to be falling into lethargy.
He revealed that President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has been staying on the borders of Lake Chad, since October 28, 2024, following the attack, the day before, by the Boko Haram Sect, on a position of the Chadian National Army in Barkaram.
He stated that after seeing firsthand the extent of the damage, burying his brothers in arms, who fell defending the motherland and instructing rapid and optimal care for the wounded, the Head of State moved to a local command Centre to personally lead the response.
General Directorate of Communication of the Presidency revealed three objectives of the Head of State's stay in Lake Chad Province which are tto Launch Operation Haskanite to track down the attackers in their last hiding places, avenge martyrs and put the remnants of this sect out of harm's way.
He added that his purpose of staying at the centre is also to reorganize the systems of FDS by strengthening their intelligence, logistics, mobility and communication resources to engage in an appropriate response to the methods used by the terrorist sect in this asymmetric war but also to the reality on the ground, to better secure border, protect citizens and avoid another Bohoma or Barkaram.
"In his capacity as President of the Republic, the Head of State reaffirms his duty to first protect Chad and its people while reassuring that Chad will respect its commitments to fight terrorism as it has always done." he stated
This action followed a Boko Haram raid that claimed the lives of at least 40 Chadian soldiers.
