The Nigerian Army (NA) has debunked a viral video circulating on social media, alleging poor feeding of soldiers in Kanama, Yobe State. In a statement on Thursday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, revealed that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered an investigation into the claim.
The video claimed that the soldiers of 159 Battalion in Kanama, Geidam Local Government Area area Wing poorly fed.
The investigation, led by the Commander Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI, found that the video was fabricated by a police officer with an ulterior motive, not by soldiers.
He said ,contrary to the video's claims, no personnel in the location received substandard meals. A hidden agenda behind the police officer's actions was uncovered and will be further investigated.
“Following the findings of the investigation, it is crucial to clarify that the video in question was not created by soldiers of 159 Battalion, but was rather recorded by a police officer stationed with the troops deployed in Geidam.
“Contrary to the claim made in the video, no personnel in that location was served substandard meal as shown in the video,” he added.
The statement reiterated that the Nigerian Army prioritizes the welfare and well-being of troops and their families, ensuring they are adequately rewarded and motivated.
The COAS has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to troops' welfare through initiatives like increased Ration Cash Allowance, prompt medical evacuation, and affordable housing options.
The Army appreciates the troops' service and the public's concern for their welfare, valuing their cooperation and support in maintaining peace and security.
