Rakiya Abubakar's Legacy Project: 125 NAFOWA Women Equipped with Business Skills, Graduate in Vocational Training

To mark a year of plethora of activities as President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs Rakiya Abubakar, on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 graudated 125 officers and airmen wives in different skills acquisition and vocational programme, that is, in food processing, branding, packaging and pastry.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mrs Rakiya Abubakar, the President, Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) this is in continuation of her predecessors legacy, to embark on more relatable and advanced vocation in order to make graduands keep up with the trend of development with a view to leverage and compete favorably with entrepreneurs in the contemporaries global space.

Mrs Abubakar this Skill acquisition programme is more of a pilot program and its different from regular vocations. "We contacted on renowned a d certified trainers and experts to engage and educate these graduands in food processing, branding, packaging and Pastry.

"We have gathered here today to celebrate a dream that have come to reality. A dream of empowering hands that nurture. The hearts that are constant in prayer and the backbone of the gallant men of valour of the Nigerian Air Force.

"As the President of NAFOWA, I see and believe that there is a lots women especially those of Air Firce community do, hence th e resolve of the initiation of this particular skill acquisition programme, from my predecessors I have obersved fantastic attempts to empowering women through provgrama like this and my belive in the spirit of NAFOWA leadership being a vcontinum necessitated this idea."

She added that in furtherance to the first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s self sustainance and healthy living through agriculture and urban planning, NAFOWA also train graduands on agriculture and urban planning.

She stressed that during the cause of the training, she went rounds and observed participants with so much enthusiasm to learn, and so much willingness to do things differently.

"On the need of networking amongst our women, this training went in o small measure to boost social interaction throught the array of facilitated invited and I am convinced fident that good relationship have been built." she noted

She said as NAFOWA President  particular elated to see that all the planning, interaction and execution have come together to network and about empowerment of 125 graduands of Skill acquisition programme. It has been a year of plethora of activities as NAFOWA President and this is one of the highlights so far.. it is on this note that this graduation is also to commemorate her one year in office. 

"To the graduands, this is the beginning of greater heights for you, keep improving on the knowledge garnered, make yourself, your family and NAFOWA proud."

In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Admiral Hasan Abubakar, ably represented by AVM Pius Oahimire, Chief of Aircraft Engineering commended the graduands for their dedication, hardwork perseverance which has led them to this auspicious moment. 

"The skills you have acquired in the various trade including agriculture, branding, pastry and processing are not just means of livelihood but tools that will empower you to support your family and contribute towards the social-economic development of the nation.

"As they embarked on their new journey, practical trade he enjoined them to look at the graduation beckon of hope and showing testament of transformation power of learning.

"Endeavour therefore to take advantage of the opportunities and skills you acquired and go out to be the best they can be. He charged them to embrace creativity and Inovation to enable their products stand out as they face challenges in their area of expertise."

A "Mother Voice Magazine" was unveiled by the NAFOWA President in the presence of Special guest of Honour, CAS ably represented, DEPOWA President, representatives of NAOWA, NOWA POWA presidents. The magazine according to Mrs Rakiya Abubakar has served as a platform of expressiveness of Air Force officers wives through the year.
