The Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, FOB, Igbokoda, Navy Captain Mamman Wasuku Alushi, has described national security as multi faceted which should not only be viewed from the application of Military Force, but the prism of human security, which include environmental and health security.
The FOB, Igbokoda Commanding Officer, stated this when personnel of the Base in collaboration with members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, representatives of Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative (DHDEI) and Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) and other participants of the host community cleared drainages and evacuated refuse dumps in igbokoda and its environs.
Alushi, who led the exercise tagged:”Clean up Igbokoda”, said it was part of the social responsibilities of the Base towards ensuring a clean environment.
He said:”It wasn’t the first time the Base is engaging the host community.
The exercise is routine and geared towards relating with the civil population more closely in a more beneficial way. It aligns with current strategic military thinking in the country where emphasis is on population security.
“The clean up exercise falls under the concept of Civil
Military Corporation which encompassed military support to the environment, either by providing services or some forms of expertise that will benefit the populace.”
Navy Captain Alushi thanked the organizers and host community for their unwavering support towards the success of the sanitation exercise.
Responding, founder of Dakiz Human Development Initiative, Mr, T. Akingbade, thanked the Commanding Officer and men of the FOB Igbokoda for partnering with his organization to ensure Igbokoda residents have a clean and safe environment.

He charged residents to avoid dumping refuse in drainage and waterways, for free flow of erosion.
Residents of the benefitting communities applauded the initiative and appreciated the Nigerian Navy for the noble gesture.
The total area covered during the cleanup is estimated at about 5km.
