As part of their educational journey, the participants of Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 8/2024 undertook a significant visit to Operations WHIRL PUNCH in Kaduna on 26 March, 2024.
According to the College Public Relations Officer, Major Hashimu Sa'as Abdullahi, the delegation was warmly received by the Chief of Staff 1 Division Nigerian Army Brigadier General MK Gara, representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC), and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General MLD Saraso, on March 26, 2024, at the Division’s Auditorium in Kawo, Kaduna.
In his welcome address, the GOC highlighted the notable achievements attained by Operation WHIRL PUNCH within the reviewed period, emphasizing the significant strides made in enhancing security.
He urged the participants to actively engage in research endeavors aimed at uncovering innovative solutions to the prevailing security challenges faced by the country, being tackled by the Nigerian Army.
Emphasizing the indispensable role played by other security agencies in the operation, he stressed the critical importance of maintaining a harmonious synergy among all stakeholders to effectively counter security threats.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to prioritize the welfare of troops, ensuring their well-being remains a top priority throughout operations.
Speaking on behalf of the Commandant AWCN, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, highlighted the tour's objective of deepening the understanding of comprehensive security strategies crucial for enhancing national stability.
He emphasized the significance of the Internal Security Study Tour as a key component of the College's curriculum, focusing on interagency cooperation and coordination in military operations.
General Umar added that the delegation comprised a total of 68 personnel, including 57 from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, 4 allied participants, and 19 representatives from key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within Nigeria.
The visit featured comprehensive briefings from various commanders involved in Operations, including presentations from the Maritime Component, Air Component, Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Air Craft System Regiments, Nigerian Police Components, and Department of Security and Civil Defence Components.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the participants, Lieutenant Colonel AB Abba acknowledged the enriching experience gained during the study tour, emphasizing its value in enhancing their understanding of internal security operations within OP WHIRL PUNCH and its applicability in future research endeavors.
Highlights of the visit included the exchange of souvenirs, the signing of the visitors' book, and a memorable group photograph, symbolizing the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to national security.
