The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, on Thursday, presented a Settlement Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme benefits of the 2022/2023 insurance policy, amounting to Two Billion, Eighty-Six Million, Eight Hundred and One Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Seventy- Nine kobo (#2,086,801,144.79k) to 785 families of police officers, who died in active service.
One of the beneficiaries is the family of eminent communicator, ardent officer, and former Force Public Relations Officer, AIG Donald Awunah, a member of the National Institute, AIG Donald Ngorngor Awunah who is the Assistant Inspector General in Charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa who died in the early hours of Monday 23rd May, 2022, at Garki Hospital Abuja, after a brief illness.
IGP Egbetokun on his remarks said the gesture was part of the IGP’s efforts to sympathize with the families of the deceased and also to upkeep their day-to-day life challenges.
He appreciates President Tinubu for Prioritising the welfare of police officers and their families. He therefore commended the Force Insurance Officer, CSP Ameh Lydia Enemona, and her team, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the initiative became a reality.
Force Insurance Officer, CSP Ameh Lydia Enemona, said the presentation of Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme will go a long way to alleviate the sufferings of the families of departed police officers.
"It is pertinent to mention that this was made possible because of the paternal affection of the Inspector General of Police who felt the pains the families of our deceased personnel might be facing due to the delay in payment of insurance claims and directed that I interface with the Insurance Companies who were not paying claims.
"These meetings eventually yielded positive results as we now have cheques for 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2021/2022 which have been pending for some years now without payment and for 2022/2023 policy year for the presentation today.
