Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, DEPOWA President on Wednesday, 26 September 2023 led the executive team of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) on a familiarization visit to the acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag IGP Olukayode Egbetokun at his Louis Edet House office, Abuja.
Spye TV News reports that the President of the Association, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa said the visit was to inform the IGP of their programme of action and to foster unity amongst wives of officers of the Defence and the Nigeria Police Force.
She said "on behalf of all the officers wives, including your amiable wife, I say thank you sir, for giving us the opportunity to be here today. When I went to the IGP's office, I saw a stockpile of files that are beginning for his attention, but he still finds us worthy to be attended to. We are most grateful sir.
"Sir, permit me to say that we are here to seek for your collaboration on the various projects we are currently embarking on. Without you, our husband, we know we can't go far, but with you by our side, the sky cannot even limit us.
So far, we have sorted out some projects, which includes training of our women on ICT, cake making, I'm a baker myself, handcrafts, as well as taking care of the widows of personnel that died in active service. We are also having a purse where we can take care of sick or deformed personnel's wives and children. We have much more to do. Sir, that is why we are here to seek for your assistance ".
She said the association will by the end of this month commence the training for widows drawn from all the Associations and will embark on various campaigns and initiatives to support women's development which is one of the integral objectives of the Association.
While emphasizing the exploits of the Inspector-General in the area of internal security, which according to her has given peace and tranquillity to Nigerians, therefore seek the support of the Inspector General of Police, for the fulfilment of their dreams and aspirations.
"I know we can rely on your cooperation and extensive insight as we are fully ready to keep contributing our part in nation-building," she stressed.
Responding, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun thanked DEPOWA for the visit while commending them for their laudable projects, saying, it is a touch to lives.
IGP Egbetokun further said the Police Management Team has programmes to assist widows and orphans of officers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty by providing them with scholarship and we will be distributng cheques worth one billion, three hundred and two million, five hundred and ninety-seven thousand, two hundred and sixty-nine Naira and fifty-four Kobo (N1,302,597,269.54k) only to four hundred and twenty (420) families and next of kin of our fallen heroes as the insurance benefits for the insured periods of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and 2021/2022 policy year for the IGP Family Welfare Insurance Scheme.
