In an effort to degrading terrorism in the Lake Chad basin, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the Regional Intelligence Fusion Unit (RIFU) have started strengthened cooperation in intelligence gathering.
RIFU Coordinator Abu Hadiza Zanguina Karimbinta made this known during her working visit to HQ MNJTF in Ndjemena, Chad today, Monday 12 June 2023.
Zanguina reaffirmed RIFU's commitment to supporting MNJTF with actionable intelligence, praising the force for its commitment in degrading terrorism in the Lake Chad basin.
Responding, the Force Commander of MNJTF, Major-General Gold Chibuisi, described the visit as crucial in identifying areas of intelligence support for the mission. He emphasized his determination to leave Lake Chad basin in a better state than he found it.
RIFU was established in 2014 to harmonize intelligence gathering and sharing among the five Lake Chad states. The unit has been instrumental in providing crucial intelligence to facilitate the operations of MNJTF in combating terrorism in the region. This partnership between MNJTF and RIFU will further enhance the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and sharing between the two organizations.
The increased cooperation between MNJTF and RIFU will undoubtedly help to address the intelligence gaps that exist in the region. The two organizations will continue to work together in promoting peace and security in the Lake Chad basin.
