'Like the Scorpion Which You Are, Remain Resilient' - Major General Jakko Charges Guards Brigade Troops, Hosts WASA in Abuja

... Receives Encomium For Upholding Enviable Standard as Custodian of Ethics, Customs and Traditions of Nigerian Army

"Like the scorpion which you are, you must remain resilient and agile to counter any trades capable of causing chaos in our country, especially as the general elections are around the corner.

The Director General Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, Major General JE Jakko said this at the Guards Brigade West African Social Activities WASA 2022 which took place on Friday 10 February 2023 at Lungi Barracks, Maitama, Abuja.

He commended the officers and soldiers of guards brigade for their Vigilance and sacrifices and for upholding the high an enviable standard as the custodian of ethics, customs and traditions of the Nigerian army and for contributing towards ensuring that security of the Federal Capital territory and other parts of your area of responsibility.

Major General Jakko who was the Special Guest of Honour in his remarks, urged Guards Brigade  to be vigilant while carrying out their duties and to not that their individual sacrifices would add up to the overall success of Guards Brigade.

While reminding them of their motto, which is "Vigilance and sacrifice", Major General Jakko reminded the Guards Brigade troops the role they play in the security of President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the first family, and indeed the Federal Capital territory, which is critical to national security and as such they must not rest on their oars. "I urge you all to keep it up as the Nigerian army looks up to Guards Brigade to keep the flag flying", he said.

He charged them to remain steadfast and this means in carrying out their duties so as to be recognised during the next WASA.

"To the various cultural troupes and participants of other displays, I wish to thank you for your wonderful displays, which were entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the thug of war competition between the female soldiers and our beloved barracks women.

He stated that he was pleasantly surprised at the strength displayed by barracks women, and wish to sincerely appreciate them. "To the winners of the of the thug of war, i wish to congratulate and keep you an urge you to keep it up. I must remind you that this recognition you have received is a call to further hard work and a lot more will be expected of you.

"Families, I wish to thank you all for the support which has proven invaluable in ensuring that personnel of Guards Brigade are focused and perform their duties optimally.

Major General Jakko also poured encomiums on the Chief of Army Staff  Lt General Faruk Yahaya for his guidance and leadership skills and his exceptional interest in the welfare of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian army.

According to him, since the assumption of the COAS, he has made professionalism, training, and welfare of personnel a key aspect of his command philosophy. He appreciated the Commander Guards Brigade for the WASA 2022.

In his opening remarks, the newly appointed Commander, Guards Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Aminu Umar stressed the significance of the West African Social Activity, WASA, which is an age long event of the Nigeria Army which dates back to the 2nd World War. It is an a-list social event of the Nigerian army, meant to foster comradeship among the officers and men. WASA has helped to command the confidence of soldiers and to foster espirit-de-corps among them.

He also reassured the citizenry of the Federal Capital Territory and its environs not to have any doubt in terms of security during and after the 2023 General Elections. 

SpyeTV News reports that the event was indeed colourful as it witnessed various cultural dance displays, tug of war Competition, presentation of souvenirs, Beating of Retreat and Lighting of Bonfire WASA by the Special Guest of Honour.

There was also Taekwondo fight presentation, Nigeria food display by  177 Guards Battalion, Guards Brigade Garrison, 7 Guards Battalion, 102 Guards Battalion, 175 Guards a special Nigerian army and Raffle Draw.

Dignitaries at the WASA event are principal staff officers at the Defence Headquarters and Army Headquarters, Commanders, the Commissioner of Police for FCT, Commander Nigerian Navy Commander and indeed the Air Force Commander, and of course our traditional rulers and the distinguished guests and members of the press who have all made today's occasion a memorable one.
