... Commends 7 Division Developmental Efforts
The Nigerian Army has commenced plans to evaluate and assess the current conditions of the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery, for improvement towards meeting international best practices, as well as monitor compliance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Nigerian Army cemeteries.
This was revealed when a compact team from the Directorate of Veterans Affairs, Department of Army Administration led by Colonel VC Ibeh, on Monday, 6 January, 2023 commenced the year 2023 First Quarter Assessment visit to 7 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).
SpyeTV News reports that the team commenced the visit with a courtesy call on the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shaibu at the Headquarters 7 Division Complex, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Speaking at the event, Colonel Ibeh disclosed that the visit was in line with the COAS' vision of improving the welfare and all-round administration of Nigerian Army personnel.
He enthused that the visit was aimed at enhancing the operating standard of Nigerian Army Cemeteries across the country, to meet up with international standards.
He added that the visit was also to assess the wellbeing and administration of Nigerian Army veterans in Borno State.
The team leader thereafter alluded to the need to upgrade all cemeteries to a befitting standard, emphasizing this was vital, considering they are the final abode for every soldier who has paid the supreme sacrifice in defending the territorial integrity of our beloved nation.
While expressing satisfaction over the massive infrastructural development in the Cantonment and in the cemetery which serves both the Division and the Theatre, the team leader commended the Division for its concerted efforts in improving the standard of the Cemetery in particular, and the Cantonment at large. He thereafter appreciated the General Officer Commanding (GOC) for the warm reception accorded him and his team, urging him to keep the good works going.
In his remarks the GOC expressed his resolve to support the team with all the necessary support required to achieve their task. He also reaffirmed the Division's commitment to maintaining a befitting cemetery, being the final resting place to our gallant troops that have paid the supreme price in defending our dear nation.
The GOC further urged the team to conduct a holistic assessment on the cemetery and make a comprehensive report and recommendation to AHQ on the need to restructure and upgrade the cemetery in line with global best practices.
Present during the occasion were members of the AHQ team, the Chief of Staff 7 Division, Brig Gen OM Oyekola, Principal Staff Officers of the Division amongst others.
