Few Hours After the Inspector General of Police IGP Alkali Usman Baba's Warning to some state governors that encourages violence during campaigns of their opponents in their States, the Nigeria Police has ordered the arrest of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Aide ‘Auxiliary' Over the Destruction of APC Billboard in Oyo.
The chairman, Park Management System (PMS), Oyo State, Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as, Auxiliary, was on Thursday docked for allegedly destroying billboards of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), valued at N4.2 million.
“Auxiliary”, 61, was docked before an Iwo Road Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful damage and breach of public peace.
Prosecution counsel Sunday Fatola said that the defendant and bothers at large allegedly conspired to commit the offences as charged.
“The defendant, on Nov. 13, at Igboora, at about 6.50 p.m., was alleged to have wilfully and unlawfully damaged APC billboards bearing the pictures of the party’s presidential, governorship and House of Representatives candidates, valued at N1.2 million.
“Also, on Nov. 13, at about 11.00 a.m. at Ido, in Omi-Adio Magisterial Area, Lamidi allegedly conspired with others to wilfully and unlawfully damage APC billboard, bearing the picture of Aderemi Oseni, the party’s House of Representatives candidate valued at N3 million,” Mr Fatola said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 249 (d), 451 and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The PMS chairman, whose followers filled up the court’s premises in a disciplined manner, was represented by J.D. Olaniyan and F.S. Gbadamosi.
Mr Olaniyan told the court that the charges preferred against his client were politically motivated, and as such, were bailable.
He, therefore, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail on self recognition and on most liberal terms.
“The defendant, being the Chairman of PMS in the state, is not an ordinary person.
“He is a responsible person, so he cannot run away and he will, surely, present himself in court,” Mr Olaniyan told the court.
Chief Magistrate Taiwo Oladiran, however, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mr Oladiran, thereafter, adjourned the matter until February 2 for hearing.

A court document, on Thursday, showed that Auxilliary, 61, was arraigned on November 17, on six counts bordering on conspiracy, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
He was accused of conspiring with others now at large to damage the All Progressives Congress (APC) billboards bearing the pictures of its presidential candidate, governorship candidate and House of Representative candidate in Igboora, Ibarapa Central Local Government, valued at N1.2 million, and the billboards bearing the pictures of APC House of Representative candidate, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, valued at N3 million.

“That you MUKAILA LAMIDI ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same, date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial district did willfully and unlawfully damage APC Political Party Bill Boards bearing the pictures of APC Presidential Candidate, Gubernatorial Candidate and House of Representative Candidate valued One Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,200,000:00) property of Oyo State APC represented by Hon. Isaac Omodewu Ajiboye ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you MUKAILA LAMIDI ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same, date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial district did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by destroying APC Political Party Bill Boards bearing the pictures of APC Presidential Candidate, Gubernatorial Candidate and House of Representative Candidate and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you MUKAILA LAMIDI ‘M’ and others now at large, on the 13th day of November, 2022, about 11:00am, at Ido in the Omi-Adio Magisterial district triable in the Ibadan North East Magisterial district did conspire with one another to commit an offence to wit: Malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you MUKAILA LAMIDI ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same, date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial district did willfully and unlawfully damage APC Political Party Bill Boards bearing the pictures of APC House of Representative Candidate Engr. Aderemi Oseni ‘m’ valued Three Million Naira (N3,000,000:00) property of Oyo State APC represented by Alhaji Akeem Okedina ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
“That you MUKAILA LAMIDI ‘M’ and others now at large, on the same, date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial district did Conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by destroying APC Political Party Bill Boards bearing the pictures of APC House of Representative Candidate and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000,” the charges read.
