The Nigerian Army 23 armoured brigade has been declared winner of the 3-division inter brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commission Officers (WOs/SNCOs) competition, which ended on Friday.
Spye News gathered that the six brigades from the division, that is, 6 brigade Jalingo, 23 brigade Yola, 33 artillery brigade Bauchi, 43 engineering brigade Jos, 53 signal brigade Jos and 3 division garrison Jos took part in the four-day tournament, which began on Tuesday.
The competition which are Drill, map reading, combat swimming, weapon handling, and obstacle crossing were among the five main events in which the six military groups competed.
3 division training officer and chief umpire of the competition, Brigadier Gen S. Adamu advised the competitors to accept the results in good faith when announcing the results.
He pointed out that the 23 armoured brigade won the overall competition and took home the wooden spoon, while the 43 engineering brigade came in second and the 53 brigade came in third.
According to him, the aim of the competition is to strengthen leadership skills, organizational ability, endurance, and promote esprit de corps among the participants.
The formations were fiercely competitive in all five events.
There are three categories of awards: the first is for “individual performance’, the second is for the “best three formations” in all five events, and the third is for the “best three overall formations and the last formation which will get the almighty wooden spoon,” he explained.
The brigade commander of Yola 23 armoured brigade, Brigadier General Aminu Mustapha Garba thanked God for providing a smooth and injury-free tournament.
He expressed gratitude to Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering support for the brigade.
Garba also thanked Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, and GOC 3 Division, Major Gen. I.S Ali, for their unwavering support for the brigade.
"Our appreciation also goes to the commander 153 base services group for providing us with the team of expert judges and seasoned instructors for various events during the course of this competition not forgetting the efforts of the chief umpire who virtually coordinated the competition from A to Z,” he said.
The governor, who was represented by his chief of staff, Prof. Maxwell Gidado, urged the military to keep up the pace because it will help the soldiers prepare physically and emotionally for the difficult duty of defending the country.
