176 Guards Battalion Wins 2021 Guards Brigade Inter -Unit Obstacle Crossing Competition

The 176 Guards Battalion, Friday of the Nigerian Army has emerged winners of this year's 2021 Inter-Unit Obstacle Crossing Competition in line with its 2021 training cycle.

The annual obstacle crossing-competition which took place at the Headquarters Guards Brigade, 7 Guards Battalion Obstacle Course, Lungi Barracks, Maitama is an important aspect of military training aimed at evaluating troops’ confidence as well as promoting team-spirit and cooperation amongst.

177 Guards Battalion won in second place, 7 Guards Battalion in third place, 102 Guards Battalion in 4th place, and the Guards Brigade Garrison in 5th place. 

The competition was a spectacle to behold as all the participating units came fully prepared for the competition as evident in the athletism, determination and  skill on displayed. 


In his remarks,  the Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Muhammed Takuti Usman commended all the participants for their commitment, dedication and zeal, and tasked them to remain disciplined, vigilant and diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities in line with the brigade motto “vigilance and sacrifice”. 

He thereafter urged them to sustain the aggressiveness and resilience exhibited throughout the competition, in their day-to-day activities at their respective units.

In a similar vein, the Special Guest of Honour for the occasion, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General AB Ibrahim, who was represented by the Acting Deputy Chief of Training - Training, Linkages and Integration Army Headquarters, Brigadier General OT Olatoye, commended all the participants and urged them to maintain the high standards of discipline, team-work and determination exhibited during the competition.


This year’s competition was also aimed at enhancing troops’ physical fitness and combat survival, in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, “to have a professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria”.
