Former governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda has quit his
membership of the PDP, Premium Times reports.
Yuguda, 59, is a former minister of aviation under the
Olusegun Obasanjo who is known for jumping political
platforms at different times.

After he failed in his attempt to get the PDP’s
governorship ticket during the 2007 general elections,
Yuguda defected to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP),
where he won the election and shortly afterwards,
returned to the PDP.
Speaking to journalists via telephone on his decision,
Yuguda said his decision to leave the PDP was informed
by the party’s lack of focus and will to bring development
to Nigeria
Yuguda who spoke to journalists in Bauchi over the
telephone on Saturday, April 23 said he decided to leave
the PDP because the party had lost focus and presently
lacked the will to bring development to Nigeria.
The former governor was however mute on the direction of
his political future as he failed to disclose his next step.
He said: ”Already I have told my supporters that I will not
force them to leave PDP. Anybody that wants to remain in
PDP is free to do so and whoever wants to move with me
is welcome.
“I decided to leave PDP because the party can no longer
bring development to Nigeria, it’s unfortunate that the
party has lost focus.”
Yuguda prayed for the success of President Muhammadu
Buhari in the discharge of his duties as president of
Nigeria.
”We must always pray for the success of our leaders
because the Holy Quran admonishes people to pray for
their leaders to succeed and that is why we should pray
for the success of President Buhari’s administration,” he
said.
Immediately after his conversation with journalists, some
of his supporters trooped to the secretariat of the Nigeria
Union of Journalists in Bauchi where they publicly tore
their PDP membership cards.
Reacting to Yuguda’s defection, a public affairs analyst,
Nonso Nwachukwu told NAIJ.com that Yuguda is seeking
for political relevance.
His words: ”You know the typical Nigerian politician. He
probably know he is finished politically and he is about to
join the APC.
”I am not surprised, he has no more influence, no more
power and he is seeking relevance in the present political
dispensation.
”Another reason might be that he is avoiding being probed
by the present occupier of the Bauchi state government
house.”
