Publicity Secretary, Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Abayomi Adesanya
The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has suspended its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, for supporting the ministerial nominee from the state, Prof. Omoleye Daramola.
It was learnt that the leadership of the Ondo APC was not happy with the choice of Daramola who was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari last week.
However, Adesanya issued a statement praising the President for nominating Daramola. The APC spokesman had also urged the Senate to approve Daramola’s appointment.
He had said, “We want to thank the President for his deep sense of leadership, especially in the emergence of Prof. Daramola as the minister from Ondo State. Daramola is a man of honour and integrity, quiet but dogged.
“He is a renowned academic and a politician. It is noted that the work ahead requires competence and focus, we will always support the cause of the rebirth of a new Nigeria by President Buhari.
“Senators from Ondo State should put aside political and personal interests to support the nomination of Daramola as the minster from the Sunshine State. We also pledge our total support for Mr. President.”
It was learnt that at the party’s State Working Committee meeting last Thursday, the leadership of the party in the state explained why the committee should suspend Adesanya.
Sources at the meeting disclosed that the leadership of the APC was not happy with Adesanya’s statement which was contrary to the stand of the party on the nomination of Daramola.
Groups loyal to a leadeer of the Ondo APC have since the announcement of Daramola joined forces with some other groups who were also pained that their preferred candidate, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), was not picked by the President.
However, it was learnt that a committee had been set up to look into the matter and had mandated Adesanya to appear before it.
According to a statement by the state secretary of the party, Mr. Rahman Rotimi; and the youth leader, Omolayo Babalola, “the SWC also noted the continuing gross misconduct of the state Publicity Secretary and, therefore, unanimously suspended him from office and set up a disciplinary committee to look into his activities which have of recent embarrassed the party”
It would be recalled that on August 7, 2015, Adesanya was suspended over a statement in which the publicity secretary said that the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, was on the payroll of the Ondo State Government.
