Suspected political thugs attack Aregbesola’s convoy

The governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola, got the shock of his life at the weekend
when his convoy was attacked by hoodlums
suspected to be hired political thugs in Ilase,
Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

Aregbesola was at Ibokun and Ilase in continuation
of the campaign activities for candidates on the
platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC,
when the incident occurred.
During the ensuing confusion, several APC members
were allegedly injured with posters of contestants,
APC flags and the podium on which the governor
was to address the gathering were also damaged.
The hoodlums, who were armed with dangerous
weapons, fired several gunshots into the air to scare
aware the APC crowd who were waiting for the
arrival of the governor, before destroying flags,
posters and campaign podium.
An eye witness disclosed that a female member of
the APC, who had her ear slashed with machete,
was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
The shocked governor, who later returned to the
campaign ground described what he saw on ground
as callous and condemnable.
He called on security agencies to investigate what
he termed as an unprovoked attack, calling on the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP “to desist from the
ignoble act. “We, as a party, are responsible and
peace-loving. We are loved by the people. It is
those who do not have electoral value that will
attack the same people they ought to patronise for
votes,” Aregbesola said.
