Sirens from convoys of politicians and dignitaries blared in and around the rally venue on Lagos Island from early hour of today in Lagos and commuter traffic backed up as delegates began arriving.
President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, today officially opened their campaign towards next month’s presidential and governorship elections in Lagos, with a vow to emerge victorious at the polls.
The president and all PDP state governors led by its Chairman for Southwest , the Governor of Ondo State, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko made the declaration at the Tafawa Balewa Square.
In his opening remarks, Ahmadu Ali, the Director of the Jonathan-Sambo Campaign Organisation, said that the PDP, unlike the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, belongs to all Nigerians “The PDP is not the exclusive preserve of an individual who has turned Lagos into a cow to be milked,” said Mr. Ali.




Tunji Shelle, Chairman, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State, said the impressive turnout at the party’s rally in Lagos indicated support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“President Jonathan, despite security challenges being faced by the nation, has performed well in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.
“The crowd here today is not just party members but Nigerians who believe that Jonathan, his team and the PDP have done well and will do better,” he said.
The party later presented its flags to the governorship candidates of the respective states including Jimi Agbaje of Lagos State.
Addressing the crowd, the Super eagles Captain Joseph Yobo pledged his support for the Presidential Candidate of PDP.
To spice up the crowd was Contemporary singer Oritsefemi and Popular fuji act Abass Akande Obesere also known as Omo Rapala was on standby to thrill the crowd
Bisi Olatilo and Yemi Solade were the Master of ceremony. State governors present are; Segun Mimiko of Ondo, Martin Elechi of Ebonyi, Jonah Jang of Plateau, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Aliyu Babangida of Niger, Ibrahim Shema of Katsina, Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna, Idris Wada of Kogi among others.
